GREENVILLE, PA – As the headline states, blowouts and nailbiters were two main ingredients in the Week 2 High School football season across Northwestern PA.
From Hickory’s 70-0 blowout over Mercer to Conneaut, PA’s 34-33 win over DuBois; everything else fell in between.
Then, you had excitement to the final play of the game with Titusville edging out Fairview, 32-27; with the game-winning touchdown coming with no time left on the clock. Titusville got the ball with 16 seconds left and drove the ball down the field for the victory.
None of the Erie city schools could muster much scoring on Friday night. Only 19 points were scored by Strong Vincent and Central Tech in combination. Erie East plays Fort LeBoeuf on Saturday night at Veterans Stadium, with hopes of scoring more than its counterparts from across town.
Some fans have oftened wondered why the Erie school board doesn’t combine the three schools into one football and basketball program. If that would happen, it would give McDowell and Cathedral Prep more competition at their level of enrollment.
