LOGANTON – For some teams left to play football, its win or reflect back over the next several months until practices start in mid August. For others, its a career that is suddenly over with; unless, they are gifted enough to play in college.
But, if your school is still fortunate to still be in it… well, let’s look no further.
PIAA District IV – Class A
In a rematch from earlier this season, South Williamsport Mounties (10-1) will travel to Catawissa (Columbia County) and face a perennial powerhouse in the Southern Columbia Tigers (11-0). Earlier this year, Southern Columbia visited Rodney K. Morgans Stadium and showed the Mountie faithful what a showcase football team can do and how to do it, beating the Mounties by the score of 42-21 on September 21st.
The winner will face either Old Forge (11-0) or the Dunmore Bucks (10-1) from District II.
PIAA District IV – Class AA
A pair of 9-2 teams will meet in one semi-final matchup as Athens will visit Danville at Memorial Stadium for a showdown. The Wildcats are having another successful season; meanwhile, the Ironmen are getting it done as well.
In the other semi-final matchup, Mount Carmel has staged a comeback after losing three straight games in the middle part of the season. But, has since only lost once in the remaining five games of the regular season. The Red Tornadoes (7-4) will travel to Montoursville (8-3) and face the Warriors.
On September 28th, Montoursville edged Mount Carmel 41-37, in a hard fought game at Montoursville. The following week, Mount Carmel started to turn their season around by beating Central Columbia, North Schuylkill and Hughesville; before losing to Class AAA Selinsgrove, 33-20. Since that game, they beat Shamokin to finish out the season. Last week, they beat Central Columbia once again 17-0.
PIAA District IV – Class AAA
Shamokin and Shikellamy are two of those teams on the outside looking in, as the Selinsgrove Seals (8-3) will host the Milton Black Panthers (7-4) in Selinsgrove.
On October 12th, the Seals narrowly came away with the victory at Milton, 14-12. Can the Black Panthers exact revenge on the Seals in front of their home crowd. It has been a long time since the Black Panthers and football playoffs have went “Hand in Hand” together. The Black Panthers have been building for the future for quite some time now. Head coach George Goodwin, in his third season at Milton has got the team heading in the right direction. Last season, the Black Panthers finished 6-6. Before that, Milton was able to only win one game in the previous four seasons.
The Seals are coming off of a 1-9 campaign last season, partly due to in-team suspensions. They are just three years removed as the Class AAA state champions. That came in Coach Dave Hess’ second season at the helm of the Selinsgrove program.
EASTERN CONFERENCE – Class A
Northwest Area (6-5) and Schuylkill Haven (6-5) will face off for the Class A crown in Eastern Conference play. Northwest beat Muncy, 42-21; while Schuylkill Haven beat Bucktail, 50-6
