LOGANTON, PA – The high school football season is fast approaching the conclusion of another battle – tested year for schools, coaches and athletes.
Tonight, many of the area teams are starting to get things worked out as they prepare for a potential playoff run within District IV and further, in the coming weeks.
Teams such as Lewisburg, Central Columbia, Montoursville, Milton, South Williamsport, and Muncy; square off tonight in exciting action. For other teams like Jersey Shore, Montgomery, and others; let’s just say that they are working toward fine – tuning to next season already.
Let’s take a look at the playoff picture.
In Class A, a total of four teams will get to see a Week 11 game somewhere. Southern Columbia, South Williamsport, Line Mountain and Bloomsburg are currently the four teams that would see action.
However, Sayre, Muncy, and Bucktail are on the outside looking in. If Muncy could upset South Williamsport on their home field tonight; it would create some manueverability for Muncy in the playoff race.
In Class AA, the top eight teams qualify for playoffs. Central Columbia, Danville, Lewisburg, Athens, Mount Carmel, Troy, Loyalsock and Montoursville would make the postseason. They are also the only teams in Class AA that have a .500 record or better.
Tonight, Lewisburg battles Central Columbia. The winner could stand on top of the playoff pedestal with a win. However, Danville isn’t going to lay down their iron, when the battle is just starting to rage for a district title.
In Class AAA, Selinsgrove, Shikellamy, Milton and Shamokin are the top teams right now. The other three teams, East Juniata, Columbia – Montour Vo Tech and Jersey Shore are trying to save some dignity by finishing out the season with at least one or two victories for the season.
In Class AAAA, Williamsport is the only District IV team and are just looking to get their first win. Currently, they sit at the bottom of the heap with an 0-7 record going into tonight’s game against Tunkhannock.
