Lady Bulldogs Edge Bellefonte In A Sqweaker, 38-35

JERSEY SHORE, PA – Jersey Shore Lady Bulldogs Head Coach Greg Bruce was concerned about their opponent on Monday night. Even though, the Bellefonte Lady Red Raiders came into the contest with an 0-2 record; he felt that the record was misleading.

Bruce’s concern may have been justified as the Lady Red Raiders gave the Lady Bulldogs fits in the first period of action. In fact, the Lady Red Raiders only allowed four points in the entire first period.

The Lady Bulldogs couldn’t find the rhythm, pace or the basket for about four minutes as Bellefonte (0-3) played with tenaciousness and fire in the first quarter.

Then, things started clicking and Jersey Shore (4-0) got back into the game and even tied it up in the second quarter. But, as they scrapped and scraped their way back; their floor leader Kayla Allen (SR-G) got into foul trouble.

Allen didn’t see much playing time for the remaining three minutes of the second period. Not until late in the third quarter did Allen feel the touch of a basketball. Though, she didn’t score at all in the victory; Allen did contribute in other areas.

Lexi Wetzler and Torrie Sealy kept Bellefonte in the game for the most part. Wetzler led Bellefonte scores with fifteen points; while, Sealy added thirteen.

Overall, the Lady Bulldogs were led by Courtney Smith (SR-C) with 22 points. Sara Danley came off the bench and added eight points. Holly Peacock (SR-G) added 6 points and Paige Packer (JR-G) had just 2 points and a massive amount of steals and playmaking thrills at times.

With the victory, the Lady Bulldogs will face PHAC foe, Midd – West on Wednesday night at Bulldog Gymnasium. Bellefonte will host Philipsburg – Osceola on Wednesday night as well.
