Bison Swim Team Finishes 3rd @ Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, PA – Mike Nicholson won the 200-yard breaststroke and Trevor Reitz claimed the 100 freestyle Sunday at Kinney Natatorium as the Bison men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up the three-day Bucknell Invitational in third place. Nicholson had a standout meet as he collected four top-three showings during the course of the weekend.

Nicholson’s victory in the 200 breast came in 2 minutes, 1.71 seconds, equaling his career best, which ranks No. 2 in program history. The junior knocked 3.41 seconds from his prelim time. Later, Nicholson placed third in the 200 fly. Earlier in the weekend he won the 400 IM and took home third in the 200 IM.

Reitz was one of six Bison who finished in the top 16 of the 100 free, but he was the only one in the “A” final. The junior also won the prelims and his finals time (46.30) was .21 seconds faster than that.

Freshmen were Bucknell’s top finishers in the other two individual events contested Sunday as Will Rappaport placed seventh in the 200 back and Brian Phillips finished ninth in the 1,650 free. Rappaport’s time in the 200 back (1:52.65) was just .05 away from 10th place in school history.

Bucknell will now be idle until it hosts Binghamton in a dual meet Dec. 1 at Kinney Natatorium.
