Penn College Baseball Victorious in South Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Senior Jared Johnson (Wyalusing) went 3-4 with three RBI to help the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team defeat Ancilla College (Ind.) 9-5 on day three of the team’s spring break tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.  Sophomore Jarod Bull (Jacobus) recorded the win on the mound and senior Thomas Hughes (Easton) helped the cause going 2-3 with three runs and a stolen base.

Penn College (3-1) was down by three after the top of the first but came back to score four in the bottom of the inning.  After Hughes lead with a single, Ancilla committed two errors to load the bases for Johnson who hit an RBI single.  Freshman Zachary Weil (Kutztown) followed with another RBI single and after freshman James Stewart (Latrobe) was hit by a pitch to notch an RBI, sophomore Cody Buterbaugh (Conestoga) hit an RBI single to round out the scoring.

In the second, Ancilla tacked on another run answered in the bottom of the inning by senior Skylar Gingrich (Lititz) with an RBI single.  A scoreless fourth was followed by a run for Ancilla in the fifth.  The Wildcats sealed the victory by notching three in the sixth capped off by two RBIs on a single from Johnson.

Penn College totaled 11 hits in the game.  Bull went three innings in the game giving up four earned.  Sophomore Philip Carnevale (Carteret, N.J.) came in relief and pitched a solid 2 2/3 allowing only three hits and a run.  Freshman Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) closed out the game with a strikeout and two hits in 1 2/3 innings of work.

The Wildcats get back into action on Thursday, Mar. 8 against Olney College at 3 p.m. and Ancilla at 6 p.m.
