CLARION, PA – For the second straight year, Clarion University right-side hitter/middle hitter
Hannah Heeter is a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District player in women’s volleyball.
It is the sixth consecutive year Clarion has had at least one player named to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District team.
Heeter, a junior, carries a 3.99 GPA in Biology/Pre-med while playing two sports (volleyball and basketball) for the Golden Eagles. She was the 2011 PSAC Champion Scholar Award winner in women’s volleyball after having the highest GPA at the site of the players in the PSAC semifinals.
Heeter is a key member of Clarion’s volleyball team that is ranked fourth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region. Having already qualified for the PSAC Playoffs for the fourth straight season, the Golden Eagles (23-8 overall, 13-4 PSAC West) are looking for their fourth straight NCAA Division II playoff berth and their ninth in the last 11 years.
On the season, Heeter is third on the team with 238 kills (2.34 per set) while adding 85 blocks (0.8 per set), 76 digs (0.72 per set) and 55 set assists. She is hitting .243 (238 kills-98 errors-575 attempts).
A key three-year player, Heeter has 639 kills, 218 blocks and 150 digs in her time at Clarion. Of those kills, 180 came during her freshman season when she helped the Golden Eagles to the PSAC West, PSAC and NCAA Division II Atlantic Region titles and the school’s first trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
Heeter, who played collegiate basketball for the first time last year, was also the PSAC West Freshman of the Year last year after being the only freshman in NCAA Division I or II to average a double-double for the season (13.4 ppg, 11.8 rpg).
Clarion finishes its regular season with a pair of matches this weekend. The Golden Eagles travel to Edinboro for a 7 p.m. match Friday and are at Gannon at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The PSAC Playoffs start Tuesday at a time and place to be determined.
NOTE – Clarion has had five different players earn nine CoSIDA Academic All-District honors since 2007 … Rhianon Brady earned the award three times (2009, 2010, 2011) and was also named a second-team Capital One Academic All-American in 2011, Nicole Andrusz earned the award twice (2008-2009) and Katie Aurand (2008) and Kristi Fiorillo (2007) once each with Fiorillo also earning third-team Academic All-American honors in 2007 … This is the second year Division II has had its own Academic All-District team.
