CLARION, PA – Clarion University offensive tackle Mike Felker (Jr. Gibsonia/Pine Richland) and Anthony Stimac (Sr. East Brady/Karns City) were named today to the Capital One First Team Academic All District 1 teamand have advanced to the national ballot to be considered for the NCAA Division II Academic All-America football team.
The Academic All-America program is run and voted on by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). The Division II program has eight regional teams.
Felker, a 6-4, 280-pound, junior, left tackle from Gibsonia and Pine-Richland high School, is a team captain on the 2012 Clarion University football team. He has been clarion’s starting left tackle for three seasons, including 32 consecutive games. An All-PSAC selection in 2010, he will be an all-conference candidate again in 2012.
A Clarion and PSAC “Scholar Athlete”, Mike has a 3.8 GPA and is majoring in Economics and Finance. A tremendous athlete and great downfield blocker, the golden Eagle offense is rolling up 391.6 yards of offense per game including 161.6 rushing and 230 passing. He is the son of Bill and Angela Felker.
Stimac, a 5-11, 195-pound, senior, cornerback from East Brady and Karns City High School, is a three year starter and 4=-year letterwinner with the Golden Eagles. In 2012 he has registered 38 tackles, and 3 broken-up passes in 9 games. In 2011 he posted 54 tackles, 2 int’s, 2 break-ups and 2 tfl’s. He posted a Clarion record 100-yard interception return for a td against Slippery Rock.
In 2010 Stimac had 15 tackles and 1 break-up, while in 2010 as a freshman he had 19 tackles. In his four-year career Anthony has played in 42 games with 126 tackles, 2 tfl’s, 6 break-ups and 2 int’s. He also has been Clarion’s holder on PAT’s and field goals.
A Sports Management major at Clarion with a 3.53 GPA, Anthony is the son of Michael and Christine Stimac.
“Mike and Anthony are truly deserving of this honor,” said Clarion’s seventh year head coach Jay Foster. “They epitomize the true meaning of the term “student-athlete” and we are proud that they are here at Clarion University.
CLARION NOTES: Clarion is currently 4-6 in the 2012 season with the season finale scheduled for 1pm at Memorial Stadium on Saturday against West Chester… Stimac will be one of 13 seniors honored in pre-game ceremonies… they will hope to follow last year’s First Team Academic All-America Shawn Sopic and 2010 First team Academic All-American Nick Sipes on the All-America team… Capital One took over the sponsorship of the Academic All-America program, which was started and is still run through CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
