LORETTO, PA – Senior defender Tamas Maffey-Stumpe of the Saint Francis University men’s soccer team earned CoSIDA Academic All-District first team honors for the first time in his career.
“Tamas demonstrates on a daily basis what it means to be a student-athlete,” head coach Michael Casper said. “He excels in the classroom, on the field and is very active within the campus community. I think he represents the very best of Saint Francis soccer and we are extremely proud of him.”
A scorer of four goals in his career, Maffey-Stumpe has been a stable in the SFU backfield, aiding in 30 shutouts for the Red Flash over the past four years. Academically Maffey-Stumpe is a double major in political science and accounting and has a near perfect cumulative grade point average of 3.98. The Australian native is also heavily involved in student activities on campus as a student ambassador and SAAC treasurer. The 6-3 defender will now move on to voting for Academic All-America honors.
Saint Francis enters the Northeast Conference tournament this weekend as the No. 4 seed and will face top-seeded Quinnipiac this Friday in the semifinal round in Hamden, Conn.
