ROCK HILL, SC – In the eight team field at the Winthrop Invitational, the Saint Francis University women’s golf team earned a fourth place showing following Sunday’s final round.
Coming in to Sunday’s final round the Flash women sat in a tie for second place but were tripped up slightly by a 315 on day two. Together with round one’s season-best 309 team score, the Flash recorded a 624 for the tournament, finishing 12 shots behind third place Winthrop. Appalachian State took home the team title after they carded a 592 for the two-day event. SFU improves on its seventh place showing from a season ago however in this tournament.
Ann Colligan notched yet another top-five finish and has not finished outside of the top-five in the three fall events thus far. Colligan’s personal score of 150 (74-76) got her a tie for fifth as she ended her tournament run six strokes off the pace set by individual champion Yue Xu of Appalachian State.
Next in line for Saint Francis is sophomore Mallory Cortis who picked up a tie for 19th place with a total score of 157 (78-79). Skylar Hay dropped a few shots Sunday but came away with a tie for 22nd place in the 47-player field. Both Taylar Jaramillo and Patricia Klein improved their rounds from Saturday by one stroke. Jaramillo went 80-79 for a two-day total of 159 and a tie for 25th. Klein’s Sunday afternoon gave her an 81 and solo possession of the 33rd spot.
Saint Francis will play in its final tournament for the fall season Oct. 22-23 at the Fighting Camel Fall Classic in Buies Creek, N.C.
