TOP-THREE FINISHES BY PERRY AND WRIGHT HELP BUCKNELL WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING TO SECOND PLACE AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Lauren Perry finished third in the 500 free, Emily Wright tied for third in the 50 free and both relay foursomes earned medals to help the Bucknell women’s swimming and diving team hold down second place in the team standings after the first day of the three-day ECAC Championships at Harvard’s Blodgett Pool.

Perry, who posted the No. 2 time in program history (4:53.21) in the 500 free prelims, started well at the ECAC Championships less than one week after winning a pair of gold medals at the Patriot League Championships. She finished third in the prelims and matched that in the finals. She was one of three Bison to score in the 500 free as school record-holder Kelly Pontecorvo was eighth and Stephanie Koziol, who ranks third in program annals, was 10th.

Wright was the only Bucknell swimmer to score in the 50 free as she tied with Boston U.’s Tess Harpur for third.

Ashley Henderson was the only Bison to score in the 200 IM, placing 10th.

Bucknell’s 400 medley relay placed third and its time of 3:50.04 ranks sixth in program history. Jennifer Brennan, Henderson, Elizabeth Porcellio and Perry teamed up to post that time. The squad in the prelims, which featured Emily Gwynn instead of Henderson, recorded the No. 9 time in school history.

Wright, Henderson and Porcellio teamed with Lyndsey Marcheskie on a second-place finish in the 200 free relay.

The two-time Patriot League champion off the one-meter diving board Tara Boyle led the Bison with a fourth-place showing off that board on Friday. Her score of 245.10 in the finals was more than 20 points higher than her prelim score. Lisa Bolle was 11th, adding six points to the Bucknell total.

The ECAC Championships will continue Saturday and will conclude Sunday.
