WATERTOWN, NY – The 1000 Islands Privateers lost in a heartbreaker to the Williamsport Outlaws. After the Outlaws got out to a 4-2 lead, the Privateers clawed their way back before falling in a shootout.
The Privateers got out to an early first period lead. Taylor Larsen scored on a goal, assisted by Peter Campbell 2:56 into the period.
The second period started out similar to the first with the Privateers William Foster scoring 5:22 into the period. Williamsport took the lead in the second however. Matt Smyth had a hat trick in the second, scoring all regulation goals in the period.
Williamsport increased their lead to 4-2 with a Chris Leveille goal with 18:25 left in the third period. The Privateers tied up the game with two goals by Foster 20-seconds apart to give him a hat trick.
With the score tied 4-4, the five minute overtime came and went with no goals by either team. The shootout resulted in Williamsport scoring three goals to the Privateers two. Smyth shot in the eventual winning goal in the shootout.
The Privateers with the loss, drop to 10-12. Williamsport advances to 15-12 with the win. The Privateers will play their next game on New Years Day at 5:05 as they try to get revenge against Williamsport.
