WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Two-time conference player of the year senior Stephen Romano (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) has picked up the first honor of his final campaign with the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team, as he was placed on the “Face-Off Yearbook” Preseason All-American team, earning honorable mention plaudits from the magazine that is produced by InsideLacrosse.com.
As a junior, Romano earned the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year award after finishing second in the league in goals (2.47) and third in points per game (3.33), also helping him earn Honorable Mention United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-American honors. He was Lycoming’s first All-American since 2001.
The dynamic 5-7 attackman posted seven-goal games against Messiah and SUNY Geneseo. Always clutch in the team’s close games, Romano scored the game-winner in overtime against Messiah and assisted on the winner against Elizabethtown. He won three Commonwealth Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week awards last season, giving him seven in his career. Amazingly, despite consistently drawing double teams and the opponent’s best defender, he still managed to post six hat tricks.
As a sophomore, he earned the Middle Atlantic Conference’s Player of the Year award after leading the conference in goals, assists and points.
Romano is the third player in school history to earn Preseason All-American mention from “Face-Off Yearbook,” joining Mike Doherty (2009, ’10) and Mark Barnes (2000).
The Warriors finished the 2012 season by making the postseason for the fifth straight year before falling to Widener in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals to finish 7-8 overall and 4-2 in the league under second-year head coach Todd Hodgson.
