Pontecorvo & Levendoski Lead Lady Bison Swim / Dive Team To Title

LEWISBURG, PA – Junior Kelly Pontecorvo won the 1,650 free and set a school record in the process and freshman Emma Levendoski posted a second-place finish in the 200 back to lead the Bison women’s swimming and diving team Sunday during the final day of the Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison needed every point they scored throughout the weekend as they took home the team title, edging out second-place Delaware by a slim 2.5 points.

Pontecorvo won the 1,650 free (16:41.18) and had the added highlight of breaking the school record in the 1,000 free thanks to her split time of 10:04.55. She already held both the 1,000 free (10:05.28) and 1,650 free (16:39.13) records entering the day. Pontecorvo also placed 24th in the 200 back on Sundy.

The 200 back was a strong event for Bucknell, which had 10 of the 24 scorers. Levendoski led the way with her second-place finish. She finished second in the morning prelim in a time of 2:02.47, which was good for the No. 5 spot in program history. She lowered it to 2:01.30 in the finals, which bumped her up to third in program history. Levendoski finished second in both backstroke events and 10th in the 50 free this weekend.

Bucknell received strong performances from Emily Norton and Elizabeth Porcellio in the 200 breast. Norton took home second, while Porcellio was close behind in third. It was the fourth individual top-five showing of the weekend for Porcellio, who won the 200 and 400 IMs and placed fifth in the 200 free over the last couple of days.

Lauren Perry, who broke the school record in the 200 free on Saturday, was Bucknell’s top finisher in the 100 free (t-6th), while Kristen Purdy was the top Bison in the 200 fly (10th). Katie Hetherington finished third in the one-meter diving competition, two spots ahead of teammate Tori Molchany as Bucknell was the lone school with a pair of top-five divers.

The 400 free relay of Porcellio, Perry, Levendoski and Kaitlyn Utkewicz wrapped up the meet with a fourth-place finish, but its time of 3:30.95 was good for 10th in program annals.

Bucknell will next be in action Dec. 1 when it hosts Binghamton in a dual meet at Kinney Natatorium. Start time is 1 p.m.
