EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Junior Greg Wetzel (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) reached the quarterfinals of the 165-pound bracket to lead the Lycoming College wrestling team on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the East Stroudsburg Open.
Wetzel posted a pair of wins to open his run at the tournament, beating North Carolina’s Scott Marmoll, 3-1, and Anthony Paun of The College of New Jersey, 2-1, before falling in the quarterfinals.
At 149 pounds, freshman Matt Neff (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) poste four wins, beating Penn State’s David Owens, 7-5, before falling into the consolation bracket. After an injury default, Neff posted a 4-3 win over Millersville’s Aaron Trimpey and a 6-5 win over East Stroudburg’s Tyler Wilton.
At 141 pounds, sophomore Caleb Willey (Towanda, Pa./Towanda Area) posted two consolation bracket wins, pinning Sacred Heart’s Robert O’Neill in 1:58 and earning a major decision, 15-1, against American International’s Nicholas Demore.
Sophomore Drew Reca (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) also added a pair of wins at 157 pounds, posting a fall against Gunston’s Kyle Hinton in 6:06 and adding an 8-6 win over East Stroudsburg’s Mike Honeywell.
Freshman Harris Nowotarski (Womelsdorf, Pa./Tulpehocken) also won a pair of matches at 174 pounds, taking a 4-1 decision from East Stroudsburg’s Will Esposito before a default gave him another win.
Others that posted a win include freshman Jacob Witner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) (125), freshman Owen Bradley (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) (133), freshman Tanner Fasold (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) (133), freshman Trevor Nocchi (Waverly, N.Y./Waverly) (133); freshman Tommy Flynn (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) (141), junior Johnathan Secor (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) (174).
The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, Dec. 1, when they head to the Ohio Northern University Invitational.
