LOCK HAVEN, PA – Sophomore Amanda Allex (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) scored 7:14 into the first overtime to give the Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (2-2) a 4-3 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College (1-2) tonight in a non-conference matchup.
LHU controlled the first half of action, but the game remained scoreless at halftime. The Haven out-shot the Spartans 6-4 in the first period.
The defensive battle that took place in the first half was nowhere to be found in the second half as the two teams combined for six second half goals.
LHU goalkeeper Breona Browner (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills) made a few outstanding saves early in the second half, but the Spartans took a 1-0 lead on an own goal in the 49th minute.
The Lady Eagles responded moments later off a corner kick by Samantha Biondi (Hamilton, N.J./Mercer County Community College). Biondi crossed the ball into the box where Madison Taylor (Monaca, Pa./Center) headed it into the upper near post to tie the game at 1-1.
Jenna Hunter (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) gave LHU the lead 2-1 in the 64th minute when she crushed a free kick from 20 yards out passed the Spartans goalkeeper.
St. Thomas Aquinas answered right back as they connected on a corner kick to even the game and took the lead 3-2 in the 79th minute when they collected a loose ball and found the back of the net.
LHU refused to go away though as they tied the game 3-3 in the 73rd minute when Jamie Hunter (Marietta, Pa./Donegal) found a loose ball in the box and deflected it into the net.
Allex connected for LHU 7:14 into the first overtime period as she found a loose ball and chipped it passed a number of Spartan defenders to give LHU the win
The Lady Eagles return to action Wednesday, September 19 when they host Clarion University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup.
