“Both of these young women are coming to Gannon with great golf swings, maturity, positive attitudes and an overall enthusiasm to compete for this team,” said Sorensen. “They are both capable of hitting the ground running in the fall and I’m confident they will be able to step up and contribute right away. Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased with my first recruiting class. I’m looking forward to watching Kasey and Diana have a great four years on the course and in the classroom at Gannon.”
Harter was a two-time all-state selection at Horseheads (N.Y.) High School and was named Central New York Professional Golfers Association (CNYPGA) Player of the Year in 2009. She placed second in her age group at both the 2010 NYS Amateur Tournament and the 2011 NYS Women’s Amateur event. A New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Section 4 Girls Golf Champion in 2011, Harter was also a runner-up at the 2012 Section 4 Girls Golf Championship. Other top performances included back-to-back third-place finishes at the George Douglass Corning Classic as a junior and senior.
The Millport, N.Y., native was also strong in the classroom as a member of the National Junior Honor Society, the honor roll and the high honor roll. Harter plans to major in occupational therapy at Gannon.
“Kasey has a very strong amateur tournament resume,” noted Sorensen. “I believe that will help her skip the learning curve involved with the longer courses and tougher competition at the collegiate level. She has a sound swing and I’m impressed by her athleticism as a two-sport athlete in high school.”
Munoz has several titles on her golfing resume. Her championships include first-place finishes at the 2012 Veritas World Cup in Los Angeles, California and the 2012 I Gira Interclubes in Ibague, Colombia. She was ranked fifth in the Colombian Women’s Amateur rankings. Academically, Munoz recorded one of the best ICFES scores in her country. The ICFES are Columbia’s standard test for college admissions and is similar to the United States’ SAT. Munoz plans to major in environmental engineering at Gannon.
“Diana will be the first student-athlete in the history of the Gannon women’s golf program from Colombia,” said Sorensen. “She comes to Gannon with extensive regional and international tournament experience. Her work ethic is impeccable and her maturity on and off the course makes her a perfect fit for our program.”
Gannon was the 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) runner-up after winning the 2011 title. The Lady Knights have been among the top two during the last three conference championships. Sorenson’s club opened the fall campaign with three straight top-three finishes, before completing the 2012-13 season with six top-five finishes.
