DANVILLE, IL – The Danville Dashers piled on two third period goals to seal up their third win in a row, beating the Williamsport Outlaws 4-1. Shawn McNulty opened fire in the first period scoring two minutes in for the Dashers. Danville defenseman Olivier Schenk earned his first career point on McNulty’s tally. Halfway through the period the Outlaws tied it at one. Trevor Karasiewicz went coast to coast and rifled a wicked wrist shot over Dashers goaltender Justin Sand.
Danville’s David Lun would tally the eventual game winner with 2:43 left in the first period. Lun slotted home a feed from Ryan Stern on the power play to end the first period at 2-1.
There were no goals in the second period, but a scary moment occurred with :36 on the clock. After a scramble in front of the Dashers’ cage, Sand lost his blocker and was stepped on by an Outlaw. Sand left the game with a laceration and received stitches. Backup Kyle McClure entered for the remainder of the second and the start of the third period.
Sand re-entered in the third period, and was greeted with a Ryan Stern short-handed goal at 5:37. Billy Hunt extended the Danville lead to 4-1 late in the period when Chris Affinati and Jonathan Juliano connected on a nifty passing play, allowing Hunt to fire home a wrist shot.
Justin Sand made 39 saves in the victory and Michael DiLorenzo made 49 for the Outlaws in the loss.
