WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Federal Hockey League’s team in Williamsport will no doubt experience some unique firsts, as they have settled into the confines of Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field.
One of those unique firsts is playing hockey in the rain or snow.
As a kid growing up, you would play ice hockey on a frozen pond in the countryside, no matter what the elements was doing.
However, on Friday and Saturday; the Williamsport Outlaws and their opponents got to experience it first hand on the professional level. For the Danbury Whalers and the 1000 Island Privateers, it was probably indeed a interesting scenario.
But, for the staff of volunteers at Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field; it really made things interesting for the workers around the ice. Including the penalty box crew, the scoreboard operator, official scorer and the public address announcer.
But, with the photo with this story; Al Morrison of South Williamsport, PA gave the meaning for truly loving the sport no matter what was coming down.
Morrison is one of two people that manage the penalty boxes on a regular basis. Striking up conversation with the opposing players that gives the Outlaws a Power Play moment.
