WILKES BARRE, PA – Williamsport’s Maggie Manchester and Amanda Hampton advanced to the semifinals of the District 2-4 Class AAA doubles championships after a pair of wins on Thursday at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre. Manchester and Hampton, seeded No. 2, defeated a team from Delaware Valley in the second round in straight sets and a team from Wyoming Valley West in straight sets in the quarterfinals. WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Milton senior Megan Rudloff earned a No. 5 seed for the District 4 Singles Tournament that begins Saturday at 9 a.m. at Williamsport High School. Sisters Pam and Emily Niditch of Loyalsock are the tournament’s Nos. 1 and 2 seeds. Another first-round matchup will include Shikellamy senior Tiara Bartol playing Danville’s Katharine Baum.

SANDUSKY SENTENCED TO 30 – 60 YEARS

BELLEFONTE, PA – Former Penn State University Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky has been sentenced to 30 – 60 years, with no opportunity for parole, after being convicted of 45 counts of child abuse. Sandusky expressed anger when he left the Centre County Courthouse in his red prison jumpsuit and placed in the right, rear passenger seat. On numerous occasions, Sandusky cried when he spoke to the court. During two occasions, Sandusky said that “he did not do these disgusting things” and asked “that the victims forgive him”. WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The final day of the District IV High School Golf Championships were held on Saturday at The Williamsport Country Club. Austin Renz (Danville) won the Class AA Boys Individual Championship, with a two – day total of 146. That after recording a 75 on Saturday. Renz’s teammate Robbie Seebold finished tied for 3rd with a total score of 155. Seebold tied C. J. Hollister (Central Columbia). WILLIAMSPORT – Danville won the District IV Class AA Boys Championship on Thursday, at the Williamsport Country Club. Danville’s team led by Austin Renz, Robbie Seebold, Zach Schutter, and Mark Mullery; recorded a team score of 318. Lewisburg finished in second place with a score of 336. Russell Nash, Nick Chamberlain, Ben Apple and Will Sumfest helped the Green Dragons in their effort.
